This assignment came from my Couture Embellishments and Techniques class; we were required to create a corset, skirt, and jacket as well as an abstract, detailing the creative context, aesthetic properties, technique methods, and cohesion.
Revived Antiques
By pushing myself, sustainably and creatively, to work with textiles that have been discarded and uncommon used to make garments, I have created a corset, jacket, and skirt, embellished and constructed using discarded couch cushions and a tweed tapestry, along with couture tailoring and embellishment techniques. My primary goal was to refurbish a discarded textile and use textile with similar use, i.e. the tapestry fabric. The inspiration for the look came from the discovery of the fabric I used.
The jacket’s closure straps include the same, hand beaded fabric as the corset.
The upper skirt fabric was hand dyed to create a rich brown with red undertones to be more cohesive to the colors in the corset.
The couch couchin fabric turned corset is hand beaded with over 500 beads.

After quilting and attaching the sleeves and straps, I attached the lining to the jacket's outer shell fabric.
